Precinct Committee Officers

The Precinct Committee Officer (PCO) is the party’s representative in each neighborhood. In addition to informing their neighbors about our endorsed candidates, PCOs have the responsibility of voting on our party bylaws and electing officers to the party. PCOs are elected every two years by voters in their precincts.

Appointed PCOs

In precincts that don’t currently have an elected PCO, we are looking for people to serve as appointed PCOs, with similar responsibilities but limited voting rights on party issues. Step up to talk to voters in your precinct and work to get Democrats elected!

What PCOs do

• Get to know the Democrats in your precinct and keep the party’s voter information current.
• Talk with neighbors about endorsed candidates and ballot measures before each election.
• Attend the county party’s general meetings and the biennial reorganization meeting, where PCOs elect officers and vote on bylaws.
• Help with canvasses, sign placement and get-out-the-vote efforts in your precinct.

How to become a PCO

1. Check that you are a registered voter living in the precinct you want to represent.
2. Elected PCOs file with the Whatcom County Auditor during candidate filing week in even-numbered years and appear on the August primary ballot.
3. Between elections, ask to be appointed: tell us you are interested and check “Becoming a PCO”, or email whatcomofcdems@gmail.com. The Chair appoints PCOs to vacant precincts, subject to approval at a general meeting.
