On Thursday, September 4 a memorial gathering at the Arch of Healing and Reconciliation in Bellingham will mark the anniversary of the Bellingham Riot of 1907, which drove out hundreds of immigrant workers from India. The Arch is being honored by several organizations as a unique historical monument memorializing the Chinese, East Indian, and Japanese residents who were forcibly expelled from the local community as well as many other communities throughout the Pacific Northwest and California. Organizers will release a newly created brochure about the Arch and its significance at the September 4 event and will announce plans for a traveling exhibition and expanded outreach.
